JavaScript frameworks, tools and techniques to create killer applications

Web browsers are becoming more and more powerful, and JavaScript is definitely making the web an ever more interesting place. In this article, I have compiled the most interesting JavaScript frameworks, tools and techniques to create killer applications and websites.

Ofmlabs Codecs: Pure JavaScript audio decoding

Ofmlabs is bringing audio decoding to JavaScript with two great pieces of code. The first, named JSMad, was the first proof that JS audio decoding is possible and is a port of libmad, a C based MPEG audio decoder.
The second file, ALAC.js is a port of the recently open sourced Apple Lossless decoder to JavaScript. Now it is possible to play MP3 and Apple Lossless even in browsers without native support.

JSZip: Create .zip files with JavaScript

JavaScript today is capable of generating a lot of data. The easiest way to deliver multiple files to your users is in a zip file. Instead of wasting server resources and bandwidth you can get the client to do it for you.

Is it simple and easy, you ask? Yes, definitely. Look at the example code below:

zip = new JSZip();
zip.add("Hello.", "hello.txt");
  data: function(){
    return zip.generate();
  dataType: 'base64'

    I’d like to once again thank you VERY much for showing me these magnificent tools.

    I’ll be using JSZip and node.js, but I was extremely impressed by Impress.js (and judging by its name, I guess that was the author’s intention 😀 ). Some of the other’s I’ll have to check more closely…

    Thank you for keeping this wonderful blog alive!

  • Impressed by Impress.js 🙂 so cool 3D

  • Thanks for sharing! I really like the impress.js

    Whats the Idea behind the JSzip?
    To zip them via JS you need to download them first=you don’t save the bandwidth cause your not downloading the compressed archive?
    I Don’t get it.

    Good articles, but the header is annoying. The cat coding using a Mac and sporting a soul patch makes me want to stab something.

  • The currency conversion tool is handy, I frequent for most of the time but it’s another addition.

  • Impress.js is awesome. I got start using it in my Web presentations. It will really “impress” my clients.
