Promote your blog: 250+ links to get free backlinks
Posted by jbj on Aug 29, 2008 in Blogging tips • 67 commentsIn your blog promotion, getting quality backlinks is really important, in order to increase your pagerank and your blog visibility. I have compiled a list a 250+ Dofollow blogs, blogs using the CommentLuv plugin and blogs using the Top Commentators widget.
What you have to know
Since this blog is in Dofollow and use the Top Commentators widget, we daily receive a lots of comments. But even if most of it are good and relevants, some people obviously leaves comments like "Wow, thanks" just to gain backlinks. Of course, we can't accept theses unusefull comments which are more spam than real comments.
So, if you want to create a real visibility for your blog and not being called a spammer, always leave relevant comments when you have something to say.
Please do not use this list for spamming.
Blogs using the Top Commentators widget
I already talked about the Wordpress Top Commentators widget last week. For those who haven't read the article, (yet!) Top Commentators displays a list of urls of the top commentators on the blog. If the website don't use the rel="nofollow" attribute, and if you manage to be a part of that list, you'll win a new backlink per blog post (assuming the widget is displayed on all posts). You guessed it, that will be very good for promoting your blog to both readers and search engines.
I first wanted to create a list of blogs using this widget, but it was already done elsewhere.
- Yan's list: 67 blogs using the Top Commentators widget
- Blog o Ninja's list: 48 blogs using the Top Commentators widget
Blogs using the CommentLuv plugin
Another great Wordpress plugin I talked about last week is CommentLuv. This plugin use RSS feeds to display a link to the commentator last post.

Once again I though about creating a list of blogs using CommentLuv, but when I was doing research I stumbled upon BloggerBarber and I saw...
Dofollow blogs
As you probably already know, if a link is tagged by the rel="nofollow" attribute, Google will not consider it and this link will not provide you any pagerank. So it can be usefull to get a list of a few dofollow blogs that you can comment and gain new backlinks.

Finding DoFollow blog with Fast Blog Finder
Some months ago, I found this interesting software called Fast Blog Finder. Sadly, it is not available on non-windows systems, and I'm a Mac and Linux user. I tested it at work and the results are great: Just type some keywords, and Fast Blog Finder will search blogs and sort the results by pagerank (Limited to 50 in the free edition). The software will also tell you if the blog is Dofollow or Nofollow.

Hope you found this list usefull. And you, do you experienced an increase of pagerank after leaving comments on Dofollow blogs, or blogs using CommentLuv/Top Commentators widget?
Do you receive more comments since you get rid of the rel="nofollow" attribute, or installed CommentLuv/Top Commentators widget? Let us know!

Awesome post I’m guessing this is your way of writing on backlinks since the dofollow, top commenters, and commentluv lists were already taken =P.
There are a number of tools that claim to do this, the last one I tried was reallinkfinder. So far have been disappointed with the results they display.
I will check it out and see how it runs.
Thanks
Again, sorry for all the comments (I’ve only just stumped onto your blog and there is great stuff!)
This is a fantastic list! Another that I’ve found comment kahuna. It’s like Fast Blog Find but free
worth a look (i have no affiliate with the programmer, just like the program :))
This a wonderful post. And yes you are right i also used Fast Blog Finder its really great. Thanks for the post
thanks for mentioning commentluv, it’s been updated now and is better than ever!
I’m always hearing about the various comment plugins, such as TCW, DF, and CL. I use and love CL, but am weary of the other two.
However having said that i have come across many blogs that have all three, and enjoy good rank. So they can’t be all that bad.
This was an excellent round up, will save and bookmark. Thanxs!
Missy.
I have a website for moms going green so I don’t spend much time actually reading SEO or technical websites like I should. I found this post via Stumbling. Great blog. I’ve just recently changed my blog to dofollow but I’m seeming to get spam b/c of it and this bothers me. Is this an issue or no?
In my opinion, Dofollow o Nofollow, every blog gets spammed. In that case, let’s use Dofollow
@ Sommer-Greenandcleanmom
I had the same thing, changed my nofollow to dofollow and the spam count has shot up (not as many legit comments as i would like) keep your Akismet up to date and also do a search for MontySpam (it’s a Wordpress MU plugin but i believe it’ll be released for the Wordpress soon
very useful. thank you !
i will see every list and try all those blogs
Nice tips…..but I think all blogs dont have dofollow in Comment-luv links.
nice post JBJ, thanks for the headsa up.
I am definitely going to be check out these bad boys over the next day or two.
It does’nt help to spam comments nowadays (between Akismet and a manual review, your spam is usually toast), this stuff just helps you find conversations in would you could possibly involve yourself and thereby strenghten you position in an online community by providing useful and insightful feedback on topics and posts that you’re interested in.
@bronson: I totally agree with you about blog spam. I never saw any spam on serious blogs…
Some very nice ideas here. Just started my blog and have been looking at ways to get people to find out about it. So definitely gonna this out. Thank you
Excellent content, thanks.
Just yesterday I was reading a post that gave me a list of DoFollow blogs in various niches I have already found useful.
A bit of a bummer that Fast Blog Finder doesn’t work on the Windows platform.
@James Mann: Fast blog Finder works on Windows. It is not available on Mac and Linux platforms.
JBJ - Great info and quite an eye-opener for me. I was familiar with the standard “no-follow” setting but didn’t know that many blogs have enabled “do-follow”
I plan to visit many of the sites on your lists in the coming weeks to look for topics that might earn a spot in my RSS reader.
Cheers,
Russ
Interesting post
It’s funny that this blog does not seem to have comment luv or top commentator widget. In fact the links are no follow as well
Hmmm
@Niche Marketing Guide : You’re right about CommentLuv that we haven’t installed on this blog, but you’re wrong about Top Commentators (in the footer) and links, which are dofollow.
I am sorry, I must have got it wrong
It’s just my backlink analysis software actually has no follow on my comment link in a previous post in this blog
Must be a software glitch
Thanks for the quick response. And for not editing out my comment.
Much respect
No problem, sometimes backlink software analysis can be wrong
Commentluv has been a very tool in my blog getting a PR4 in Google.
So You Want To Be a Banquet Manager
Has anyone found a tool like Fast Blog Finder for online marketers that are using a Mac?
Very interesting. Your advice is well appreciated.
@Online Marketing Performance : I’m a Mac user too so if you ever find a similar software for the Mac, please let me know!
This post is awesome, very detailed, very informative, many will learn from this post..
I’ve noticed in my Google webmaster tools that even comments on nofollow sites show up as links in. I figured that even though it was listed in the webmaster tools it really didn’t count as a link in my google PR. But it kind of makes me wonder, how does it now it links to my site if it doesn’t follow it. I think it does. But all the “nofollow” tag does is notify google that the website really isn’t voting for the site by linking to it.
brilliant post. i might have heard of that software somewhere else, but it’s only now that i have a better idea of what it does, and how it can help. am just thankful it’ll run on my system.
This a wonderful post and very informative. i will try Fast Blog Finder. Thanks for the post
I have sites with a list of one or the other but yours is the first which has a list of every kind. Maybe add a list of social bookmarking sites too?
John
Commenting on DoFollow blogs are definitely a very good way of getting quality backlinks. But people make used of this DoFollow features to post short comments which to me are considered as spam.
It will be more recommended to post quality comments as well as on blogs of your relevant niche. This is however not applicable on blogs that talk about blogging tips etc. because their readers comes from many different blog niches. But other than this, do concentrate on commenting on blog with relevant niches.
@Wei Liang: I agree with, short unrealevant comment have to be treaten as spam
I’ve tried a couple of these tools, and they usually are a help, but you still have to do some work. For example, as mentioned above, not all commentluv blogs are followed. And Comment Kahuna definitely has to have the results filtered through human eyes. But they do give you a head start.
@Bird Bath Heaters: You’re right. I should definitely create a list of dofollow blogs using commentLuv/Top commentators!
Hey thank you for the link. I have downloaded the software and will try it out as it sounds like exactly what I need. I spend most of my day blogging and searching for new blogs (with Top commentators lists preferably) to increase my page rank and links.
Nice article, just downloaded the Fast Blog Finder and it looks like quite a handy little tool to have.
I am dofollow and have CommentLuv installed as well. Once I installed them, it immediately increased the amount of comments and interactivity on my site.
I also have a plugin enabled that I am hoping more bloggers will adopt which is KeywordLuv. This lets commentors use their real name and then their keywords as the anchor text for their links. It can be used on both dofollow and nofollow blogs.
It is much nicer to be able to reply to say Bob vs. Florida Travel Deals.
Another free way to find dofollow blogs is to search for your topic on CommentHunt.com
It is a little known search engine that finds dofollow blogs with pagerank. It’s not as powerful as FBF and you may not always find blogs on your topics, but it’s always worth a quick search.
I definitely feel it’s worth commenting on a nofollow blog with CommentLuv enabled. If it is a busy blog, you can get a lot of traffic from it. I’ll take traffic over PR any day. As well, the links still seem to count with Yahoo and MSN.
Have enjoyed your blog for a while now. Thanks so much for compiling this information.
@Melissa Eaton: I heard about KeywordLuv, and this plugin seems to be very promising. I think i’ll review it soon on Hack Wordpress
awesome dofollow resources i really appreciate the links you provided surely gona help us bloggers.
Thanks for all the useful links. Will definitely use them!
I downloaded the Fastblogfinder software, i will try it to find other dofollow blogs.
Great post. I use mac so I can’t use fastblogfinder and appriciate the list.
For windows systems you can download and use for free Commentkahuna.com to find dofollow blogs.
I read lots of blogs daily…but your blog has something special I have to admit….which attracts me to visit your blog and the posts in here..again and again….I got some nice information here regarding blog promotion, SEO, designing and anything comes under the blogging roof…thanks for providing such informative posts…hope to see more from you in future..
@nasirjumani: Thanks a lot for the kind words! I really appreciate it and I glad you like the information we provide here at Cats Who Code. Btw, if you wan’t to be sure to not miss any of our post, you should suscribe to our rss feed
I`m trying right away!
I am a big fan of all of these plugins, especially those that have commentluv enabled. The new ajax commentluv is also a huge improvement because now you can see if it will actually work properly before you post.
When Google changes the PR algorithm a lot of things will fall apart. Right now everybody is talking about backlinks, commentluv, dofollow, top commenters etc
Also when we give too much of link love, own PR (and hence search priority) will reduce for our pages…
Cheers,
Ajith
@Ajith Edassery: This is why SEO is something you need to constantly re-evaluate - it’s for ever changing
@Ajith & Jamie: Totally agree! You have to learn everyday and alwyas stay aware.
Great list of links. I’ve tried out fast blog finder myself and I love it. I also like to use footprints + google to find stuff FBF normally wouldn’t find.
I tried doing dofollow on my blog, but I was getting a large amount of low quality comments. It became a hassle, so I turned it off.
Hi,
Thanks for the information you provided.
I have the Fast Blog Finder software and I have to say it is a useful tool. However, it is far from perfect.
For example if you want to find blogs about “blue widgets” (ie blogs related to your niche) most of the time you will either go no results or results with everything from blue hair dye to blue movies.
That is why I said thanks for the lists you provided. It is still nice to look at a sheet of paper and find the blogs you want.
All the best,
Marco
Thanks for the excellent do follow blogs list.
Excellent content– would sure appreciate some articles on how to score some edu backlinks.
Holy freakin’ amazing!
One thing I do not like about CommentLuv, however, is that you have to register a new account for every new blog you want to claim. So, unfortunately for we designers, it becomes more tedious every time (because I’m obviously not going to pass off the responsibility to a client!).
Thanks for the excellent info. I’ve just downloaded the Fast Blog Finder and it seems to be quite effective at finding high PR sites to comment on.
if a website listed on a kind of dofollow, usually the blog owner receive new traffic, but then change from dofollow to nofollow, or they abandon their top commentators plugins …
folks gimme a respond bitte ..please … muchas grazias … merci beaucoup …
Wow, thanks for this article. It opens my eyes up even more to the SEO techniques and little secrets needed to get your blog moving. I’ve spent a very small amount of time writing some articles, and got some stumbleupon traffic, which alone did wonders for my site (which isn’t even that great). I can see how, with a traditional blog type site, this would be a top resource. Great lists/links.
I own this software. I can tell you that it works like a charm and it does what it says. OK,I had to pay some buck but in the end i hope to get morethan that. I consider it a nice investment!
Honestly I just posted a comment on another one of your post saying I hope I understand what backlinks are, and after reading this post I realized that backlinks are achieved by me just simply leaving a comment. So for my contribution If you want to leave comments on other blogs stay away from blogger and try to stick to wordpress blogs, wordpress blogs allow you to enter your website.
I liked the lists and plugins that you promoted but noticed that you were missing keyword luv which is my favorite plugin for encouraging comments. I first ran into it on phoenixrealestateguy.com and think it is one of the best. My reasoning is that the plugin still encourages those that comment to use their names and then they can still have their link love. I just feel like it builds more of a community when you know each others names. I personally do not like how so, many fakes run around the web annonymous. It prevents them from having to be ethical and honest.

Hi,
thanks for this nice lists of dofollow blogs and how to find them. I downloaded the fast blogfinder demo version yesterday and it works fine for me as i am looking for german blogs and in preferences you can select your prefered language, thats a great tool.
